Starting or growing a business

Structure, forecasts, first registrations, VAT and your first employees.

A new business owner planning with an adviser

The decisions made at the start of a business are the ones that are hardest to change later: sole trader or limited company, which registrations you need and when, how to keep records, and how to pay yourself. Anewthing talks these through with you and sets things up properly.

As the business grows, the questions change: registering for VAT, taking on your first employee, producing figures for a lender, and knowing which numbers to watch each month. Anewthing provides the same joined-up support at each stage.

Common questions

Sole trader or limited company?

It depends on expected profits, risk, how you want to pay yourself and how customers see you. Anewthing explains the tax and administration of each before you decide.

When must I register for VAT?

When VAT-taxable turnover passes the threshold in any rolling 12-month period, or earlier if it helps, for example when most customers are VAT-registered.
