Common questions

When are company accounts due?

A private company normally has nine months from the end of its financial year to file accounts with Companies House. The Corporation Tax return is due twelve months after the end of the accounting period, but any tax is usually payable nine months and one day after it. First-year deadlines can differ.

My records are incomplete. Can you still help?

Yes. Part of the work is often reconstructing missing information from bank statements and other evidence. Tell Anewthing what you have and the gaps you know about when you enquire.

Do I have to use accounting software?

VAT-registered businesses must keep digital records and file VAT returns through compatible software. Sole traders and landlords brought into Making Tax Digital for Income Tax must do the same for their business and property income. Others can keep paper records, although software usually makes bookkeeping quicker and more accurate.
